Sunday saw Ashton Athletic under 9’s take on Winstanley Warriors at home in the K.O Cup.  Well were do I start on this one, first half the boys were very quiet and second to every ball.  I don’t think we strung four passes together, we sat back and let them dominate the game and they did.  Their first goal come in the 17^th minute one of those controversial goals a bit like the 1966 World Cup final, did all of the ball cross the line or not?  Well the referee deemed it did so1-0 down.  Five minutes later they doubled their lead due to sloppy marking by all.

The second half was more of the same we were so quiet on that pitch, boys you need to shout and talk to one another to say were you want that ball and encourage each other more as your all team players.  The last 10 minutes we put a fight with a string of corners and all players in the box but still we could not get those goals in, it was too late the game ended 2-0 and we are out of the cup.

Managers take on the game - Positives one loss in 17 games and only our second loss in 53 competitive games over two seasons, which are fantastic stats.

Unfortunately in Cup Competitions even the top premiership teams get knocked out. Negatives - we did not work hard enough today as a team, you all played as individuals with no winning spirit and could not seem bothered with passing that ball around like you can do. It’s not good enough and if we turn out like that in our last five games against Ashton and Tyldesley they will rip us apart.  I feel this could be a wake up call for all of you as you are so used to winning all the time so let’s put it behind us and regroup and bounce back to our winning ways. Your 100 times better than that display today, so come on - 3, 2, 1 ASHTON!!!
