24th January 2010 Ashton Athletic U11's 2 - 1 Weshoughton Rangers
On a cold wet day both temas struggled to get going after a enforced break because of the bad weather. On a muddy ptch it would be Ashton that settled the quickest and tried to play their normal passing game and soon got on top of a very spirited Westhoughton team. Ashton seem to camp out in the Westhoughton half but could not make the pressure count. Westhoughton were always dangerous when they attacked and themsleves could have taken a early lead. It would be Ashton that went in front from some good one twos, and Joe was there to open the scoring. Ashton kept applying the pressure but could not make it count and agaib Westhoughton kept breaking the attacks down mounted their own counter attacks but could not get behind a hard working Ashton team. It would be Joe that would exstend the lead after more Ashton pressure to go in at half time 2-0. The second half saw Lewis and Matty coming on for Jason and Regan and Ashton went out to keep the momentum going. The second half was equally balanced with either team capable of scoring but with the Westhoughton keeper having the game of his life Ashton could not improve on their 2-0 lead. Westhoughton were coming more in to the game and took some good defending and goalkeeping to keep the enthusiastic Westhoughton team out. Not for long though, after some good midfield play Westhoughton broke and took their chance to make it 2-1. This led to a nail biting finish with Westhoughton still attacking the Ashton line and after some scrambling Ashton managed to clear their line after a super save from Jimmy at his near post. The final whistle was blown and everybodies pulses were settled with Ashton being the eventual winners 2-1
Well done to both teams, you tried to play entertaining football in difficult conditions and a special well done to the young referee for letting the game flow.
