This Sunday saw Ashton Athletic take on Tyldesley Juniors in “The Clash of The Titans” our biggest game yet as both teams remained undefeated or until the final whistle went, some one had to loose. Ashton knew what they had to do and that was raising their game and boy did they do it!!!
On a wet hailstone and sunny (Four Seasons) Sunday lunchtime with a boggy, soggy mud bath of a pitch Ashton took control off the game, they outplayed, out passed, dominated and won every ball in the air and showed how we play as a team and why we have been top all season. Our first goal came from Lewis we were 1-0 up and then they equalised by a scabby toe poke of a goal in what was like a mud bath of a goal area. With eight minutes to go and two corners Tyldsey went 2-1 up at half time, but the boys regrouped and came out fighting for the second half of the game.
The second half saw their goalkeeper who was actually MOM make some outstanding saves one of them being a double point blank save from Lewis. Then came the equaliser 2-2 and then Lewis got his well deserved hat trick 3-2 from a corner by Tom Reid. Lewis was like a little ferret turning their defence inside out and really making them work. Ashton’s MOM was Tom Reid with a great performance of battling hard up the left wing and delivering all those corners which were awesome right on target going straight in the box, well done Tom!
Brad only had a few saves to make and what he did save was brilliant, however, due to the vigorous tackling and solid performances by Aaron and Sam nothing was going to get past these two today, I dare anyone who can try. In midfield Dom was like the general dominating and distributing the ball and had a number of shots and was therefore unlucky not to get on the score sheet. He also played great team work in passing those balls through to Lewis and at one point he was on target for a fantastic goal but saw Lewis to the right and realised he was a better option and passed giving Lewis his second goal. Well Done Dom!

Ozzy found his aggressive side in this game battling all the time and winning every ball down the right and linking up fantastic with Lewis. Next week leave your sleeves alone Ozzy! Tom H played some great balls especially over to Tom R switching the game from one side to the other, well played Tom you battled hard!
Well we drew first blood from a double header; next weeks game I think will be a different game but the manager has a few tricks up his sleeve. Well done boys that was the best game I have seen you play against a good opposition you played as a unit! I don’t think the score line reflected the game as we were by far the better team, in control with the most opportunities. If we play like that next week the Holy Grail will be in the bag. Once again well done! To all of you, you made me proud and this is why I give my time up for these moments!!!!
Goal Scorers - Lewis 3
MOM - Tom Reid
