This Sunday saw Ashton Athletic take on Tyldsley Juniors in once again in “The Clash of The Titans.”  On a dry sunny afternoon at Brocstede Park at 1.30 pm the battle was to commence as Tyldsley came out all guns blazing and ready for their biggest game of the season, they wanted revenge!!!!  Ashton dug in deep and proved that with the standard and flair of football they play that they were also up for a battle and continued to outplay and out pass the opposition.  However, due to their fantastic goalkeeper “Robocop” who made some awesome saves and at times Ashton felt like there was a brick wall round the box as the constant strike of shots on target were saved and saved yet again.  Their goalkeeper was also the MOM for the second week running.

Ashton’s MOM was also our goalkeeper Brad who also showed some fantastic goalkeeping with the saves he made, well done Brad!  Credit also has to be given to Aaron for yet another display of vigorous, solid, aggressive tackles that he made stopping a determined No.10 from trying to break through and steal a goal, even clearing one or two off the line, well done Aaron you showed sheer guts and determination and felt the intensity of the game. Sam you were another one who showed why we have the best defensive record with your display of Mr Cool and ensuring you got rid of the ball when needed with another solid performance.  Tom H once again found his aggressive side with some fabulous tackles ensuring he stood his ground with the opposition and fought hard winning balls.  Once again Dom displayed his fine engine with some bone crunching tackles and distributed the ball excellently moving it around the pitch and was unlucky with some of his shots.  Once again Ozzy got stuck in and gave a solid performance, each week you are becoming more confident and it reflects in your game, keep it up!  Tom R showed a fine display of taking on the opposition and delivered some fantastic corner balls but unfortunately no-one could get on the end of them.  Lewis you battled hard to get through the solid defence of Tyldsley and despite all your efforts and shots on target and even with a one on one situation “Robocop” came to the rescue for Tyldsley.  Keep going Lewis those goals will come.

I thought the whole team gave 110 % and we were so unlucky not to get anything from it, well done boys everyone of you should be proud of that performance and also thank you to everyone on the touch line who supported and encouraged the boys it was a stimulating and testing display of football from both teams.
