UNDER 9's
08th February 2009 Ashton Athletic 3 - 2 Standish Juniors
Sunday saw Ashton Athletic under 9’s take on Standish Juniors at Home, This was a game of two half’s. First half the boys played fantastic football passing it about across the pitch and showing how we can play, even when we went down 0-1 in the first minute, which certainly woke us up! However, within 30 seconds of Standish’s first goal saw Ashton with a great move throughout the team finishing with a peach of goal worthy of the Premiership by Tom Reid. Next a blistering run from Owen Williams saw a shot from outside the box hammered home in the bottom corner out of the reach of Standish’s keeper (11mins 20secs). The first half finishing 2-1, this was a good solid performance by all of the boys.
Second half once again the boys started off were they had finished, 24 minutes into the game saw Ben Dean banging home a top corner shot from a Tom Reid corner 3-1. Then I think the complacency set in and the team went to sleep and Standish hit back on the counter attack with a second goal in the 29th minute 3-2. The pitch was very heavy and the game turned into a bit of a battle with end to end football, every player got stuck in protecting our lead. Man of the match Aaron Reid put his body on the line on a number of occasions blocking several shots at goal by a battling Standish.
Positives out of the game the boys played well in the first half, and protected our unbeaten record. Negatives I think we are turning up expecting to win and the complacency sets in. We have six games left in the league and teams are getting better, stronger and turning up trying to beat the top of the league contenders, we need to treat every game and team with the respect they deserve to maintain our unblemished record to the end!!!!
