3rd May 2009 Knock out cup final Hawkley Bridge 1 - 0 Ashton Athletic (at Ashton Town)
What a fantastic game of football with both teams playing their part. Hawkley set off at the quicker pace creating some early chances but Ashton started to find their feet and set about passing and moving but found it hard to breakdown a well organised defence. The game went from end to end on what must be the biggest pitch the under 10's have played on with both teams finding it hard to make their crosses and corners find their intended targets. The game being more like a arm wrestle and neither team could get on top but it was Ashton that created more chances but could not capitalise on them. In the end it was numbers that counted, Ashton with no substitues due to the injury to James and Hawkley having 4 subs available enabled them to finishng the strongest, Hawkley's goal came in the second half of extra time when their striker broke free and slotted it past Ben. Well done to both teams for making it a game to remember. Congratulations to Hawkley on winning the cup. Well done to Ashton on winning the league and getting to the final in your first season on grass
