31st March 2009  Hawkley Bridge 0 - 4 Ashton Athletic

Ashton Athletic went into the game on the back of a excellent display in the cup looked determined to carry on the moment from that game.  The game set off at a electrifying pace with both teams looking to play flowing football.  It did not take long for Ashton Athletic to take control of the game and started to dominate proceedings and mounted wave after wave of attacking football.  Ashton kept building up play from the back with Kieran and James controlling the back line who set about spreading the ball wide through the midfield.  Joe in the middle as strong as ever getting good support from callum and Regan with the both dominating their flanks and kept pushing forward.  man of the match kieran taking the ball out wide to the right slid a pass through for Regan who in turn found Joe on the outside of the box with a neat pass and after taking a couple of touches Joe slotted it past the keeper.  A goal to the good and nearly half time Ashton kept pushing but could not get another and this was due to Hawkley getting over the initial shell shock and started to look like the team they are and started to mount their own attack and threatened the Ashton Goal.  The second half started much like the first with good passing between Regan who must have covered every blade of grass and Jason who had been busy all game, started a move off down the right with a rebounded shot going across the face of the goal and it fell at the feet of Callum who tapped it in with his RIGHT foot to make it 2 nil.  With both teams passing the ball around made it a open game of football but Hawkley just could not get the break they needed and after mounting their own attack Lewis haltered it to steal the ball and play it over the top to Jason and he netted the third and a true reward for all his industrious efforts.  Hawkley never gave up and kept pressing to get one back but with such a dominant back line of Kieran and James being directed by Ben, Hawkley had to make do with some very well taken half chances.  Sam made it harder work for the Hawkley defenders by chasing everything that went through and battled for a corner to the right side.  Callum delivered what must have been a peach of a cross and it landed perfectly on the head of the incoming Kieran express, to header home a fantastic header to make it 4 - 0.

A dominant Ashton display and a enthused Hawkley performance, well done to both teams for a enjoyable match
