UNDER 9's

1st March 2009 Hawkley 1 - 5 Ashton Athletic

Sunday saw Ashton Athletic Under 9’s take on Hawkley away at Laithwaite Park.  Well what a difference a week makes after a tough training regime on Thursday it seems that Sunday we all wanted to start straight from out of the blocks passing, moving and dominating the entire game.  The play was all one sided and the 1st half of the game we just keep pushing forward, stringing those fabulous passes around the pitch from one side to the other, they could not even get in our box.  The boys pressured Hawkley all over the pitch with a number of shots at the keeper, we just kept shooting to no avail then suddenly a fantastic move from back to front the first of five came.  The boys were constantly shouting and encouraging each other all throughout the game, well done I want that to continue and more of it.

The second half was much more of the same we were the dominating team trying hard to get some more goals and boys I cannot knock you for effort because that keeper must have made 15 saves during the second half.  Having to switch all the midfield players into defence, at one stage of the game we had Lewis & Tom at the back with Ozzy just in front and hats off to you boys you never put a foot wrong, tackling hard and getting stuck in even the dodgy penalty which was the only way they would have scored, unlucky by Brad he stood his ground and got his hands to it but it was a strong shot.  The two backs moved around the pitch in midfield and played fantastic being strong and commanding the centre of the park, well done.  Up front Lucas was swarming around the box like a busy bee being a pest in their faces and got 3 goals for his efforts, well done.

Positives - The boys all bounced back to what I would say was a fantastic display of passing and moving into positional play, even the referee commented on how well you pass that ball around the whole pitch.  A fantastic, solid team performance that was flawless to the finish, keep it up boys the end is in sight and that trophy beckons our way after all we have been top all year and that’s how we want to finish it.

Final Score - Hawkley 1 Ashton Athletic 5

Goal Scorers - Lewis 1, Owen Williams 1 & Lucas Parfitt 3

 MOM - Tom Halliwell
