Ashton Athletic

This Sunday saw Ashton Athletic take on Ashton Town at Edge Green St, with only two games to go Athletic had to win this game.  We were by far the better side playing the fantastic football that we play, but no matter how many times we shot at goal it just wouldn’t go in.  Ashton Town went in the lead just before half time with an absolute shocking decision by the ref, Tom R was fouled and play carried on.  Tom jumped up and fouled back and then the ref blew, this led to a free kick which saw the one and only shot on target go in, but it was a great volley.  The determination and guts of Athletic in the second half showed what they are capable of and when we equalised by a great goal from Lucas he turned the defender and shot from outside the box like a cannon ball into the back of the net.  The whole of the second half we were camped in their half of the pitch with attempt after attempt but to no avail.  Next week we play them again at home on a much better pitch, but this time boys we will have to take all our opportunities, we are the better football side and I think we will see a different score line.  So early night on Saturday boys and getting those shooting boots I want to see a lot of goals firing in that net.

Well a lot rides on this nothing but a win will do, the finish is near and we cannot afford to freeze and faultier at the final hurdle.  If the boys come out like they did against Tyldsely the result will be in editable. Come on Ashton you can do it!!!!
