UNDER 10's

1st February 2009 Appley Bridge 0 - 2 Ashton Athletic

A superb display of flowing football saw Ashton Athletic under 10’s maintain their 100% record with a 2 - 0 victory over a

resolute Appley Bridge.

Ashton with “Man of the match” contenders in most parts of the field, especially midfield monopolised proceedings of a

thoroughly entertaining game, from start to finish.  However, were only assured of victory when Jason Knight added a second late on in the second half.  Their complete domination saw them make no less than 43 half or guilt edged chances, with 26 shots on target.  The fact that Appley Bridge was still in the contention until late in the game was due in no short measure to a superb display by the goalkeeper.  Nevertheless even he remained powerless when Man of the match Callum Stirrup finalised a

brilliant 4 man move from one end of the pitch to the other, by hammering a magnificent left foot cross shot beyond the keeper in the first half.  Despite the number of chances that came and went it was to every ones credit that the energy levels and the fast, flowing, football that is becoming the hallmark, was

maintained to the final whistle.

In fact it seems little can put them out of their stride not even the fashion designer dress sense of the referee or should I say lack of it.  Mind you it is not often navy and black together is worn to such effect.
