7th February 2010 Golborne Sports 0 - 6 Ashton Athletic U11's

A good game of football from two spirited teams, Golborne with only eight players made it very hard work for Ashton and credit must go to their coach Neil because if they have had a full squad it could have been a different score line.  Golborne battled for every ball and scrambled back in defence to close Ashton down with the Goalkeeper making some top class saves.  Numbers finally counted and it was Joe that opened up the scoring from some good build up play that saw the people being passed around to break Golborne down.  The second came from a penalty that was cooly slotted home by Lewis to keep his goal tally going but joe would not be outdone and got the third to take his tally to 4 in two games. Soon after Ashotn were awarded another penalty which was converted by Jimmy but for it to be retaken for encroaching and Jimmy missed with the second attempt.  3-0 at Half time and after some more changes by "rent a coach" knight saw Ashton come out for the second half in a determined mood to take the game to Golborne.  Golborne still scrambling in defence made Ashton work very hard if they wanted to increase their lead, but from a corner by Faisal saw the ball be cruelly deflected in to the Golborne goal by the Goalborne defender.  Golborne had their chances but just couldnt get the final pass or shot to trouble the Ashton keeper.  The fourth came from a Faisal corner that was superbly headed in to the top right corner by Lewis to take his season tally to 20.  Again though Golborne kept attacking and making the Ashton defence back peddle but Ashton made the extra man advantage count by snuffing out the attacks.  Regan would wrap the day up with a briiliant free from the left and slotted it in at the near post.  Special mention to James for his control of the back line and making every tackle count and deservedly walked off with the man of the match.

Credit to Golborne for a spirited performance and even with a man down still tried to play football and contributed to a good game.
