18th April 2010 KO cup rd2, Ashton Athletic 13 - 1 Town Green
On a nice clear day Ashton were in a ruthless mood and really set about Town Green. It did not Ashton long to open trouble the scoreboard and it was Faisal from wide out left, beat the keeper with a high dipping shot. Straight after that Jason got on the rebound from Jamie’s shot to knock it past the keeper and then Faisal did a mirror image of his first goal and Ashton were quickly 3-0 up. Jake did a mazy run up the left and hit a low shot but before it could trouble the keeper Jamie flicked it 4-0. Good Ashton play along the back line set Callum off on a run down the left and he crossed it in for Jason the neatly place it in the bottom corner 5-0. Town Green tried everything they could to trouble the Ashton defence but Ashton were working hard for each other and were determined to keep the tally going. After another Ashton attack the ball landed at Callum’s feet in the middle of a goal mouth scramble but he knocked past a hard working keeper 6-0. Callum would provide the cross for Regan to open his account and set Regan off a one of his many celebrating dances 7-0. James made a storming run down the pitch and needed his sat-nav when he got over the half way line but Regan linked up well and the final ball to Jason was superb and was equally matched by the finish 8-0 ht. Town Green started the second half a lot more spirited and started to make head way in to the Ashton half and started to show that they too can pass and move and showed some superb touches but it was to be the celebration king, Regan, that would kick start the second half with a rocket of a right foot drive 9-0. Regan did it again after a looping run on the left and cut inside to hit another rocket and this time he had a backing dancer in Jamie 10-0. Joe was not to be out done when Jake sent in a brilliant cross, Joe took his time and managed to do THREE keepie ups then hit hard and high to beat the keeper 11-0. Next was to be the goal of the game and was supplied by the Town Green number nine, after being awarded a free-kick he kept a very cool head and hit it over the wall and curled it in to the top corner, it was a brilliant free-kick any professional would have been proud of. Jamie did a strong run to the edge of the box and hit a low right foot drive 12-0. Jamie would complete his hat-trick when he finished off a through ball from Faisal 13-0
Well done to both teams and thanks to Town Greens number 9 for giving us a much deserved talking point, “what a free-kick”
