Ashton Athletic

Perfect conditions for two excellent teams to show off their skills; what a game to watch, two equally matched teams playing some superb football in game that was end to end.  Leigh attacked from the start and kept Ashton pinned in their own half for the first 15mins, but Ashton scrambled well has a team to break Leigh down.  It took Ashton awhile to get to the pace of the game and started to get on top before the break.  From the restart and the introduction of Matty Hurst Ashton went at quick pace and took the game to Leigh.  A through ball from the back from Matty Hiley was met by a very enthusiastic Matty Hurst who struck the ball magnificently past the keeper 1-0 and Ashton had their tails up.  Leigh was passing the ball around and broke many times from midfield but could not get past the Ashton back line and the rock in the middle of it all was Matty Hiley who was superb all game.  Ashton mounted attack after attack but were met with some good defended and counter attacking.  Ashton’s second came from a corner that was scrambled clear but it landed at the feet of Jamie Charnock and he took his chance calmly to smash it past the keeper 2-0 ft
