21st March 2010 Ashton Athletic 8 - 2 Golborne sports A
A fantastic day to play football and both teams played with a lot of enthusiasm. Ashton started of the brightest and was quick to attack the Golborne defence with some chances going wide or the keeper pulling off some good saves. Regan broke the deadlock when he calmly chipped the keeper when the ball landed to him from a Golborne clearance. Matty created the second when he bulldozed his way down the right to get to the corner and crossed it superbly for Callum to slot it home at the back post. Golborne tried to create their own attacks but Ashton was in a determined mood after last week loss and worked well as a team to break Golborne down. It was some brilliant build up play that nearly touched every Ashton player that saw Jason open his account and make it 3-0. Again Golborne tried to break the Ashton defence but again were met with some tough tackling. Ironic that it would be from a Golborne attack that would lead to the fourth goal when Callum go on the end of a cross that was coolly supplied by Jakeydihno. Regan quickly made it five when he got on the end of a loose ball in the Golborne box. 5-0 half time and you would be right to think this would be a avalanche, but credit must go to Neil Foster who never stopped encouraging his team and Golborne started the second half a lot busier and hungrier and fought for every ball. I think the influence came from the Golborne number 10 who seemed to lead by example and led his team forward. Ashton though would start the second half like they finished the first but were made to fight for a long spell until Lewis took his season tally to 21 to make it 6-0 when he slotted home amidst a goal mouth scramble. Golborne were rightly rewarded for a lot of hard work when they broke the midfield and went 3 on 1 at the Ashton defence to slot home a coolly taken chance to make it 6-1. Ashton though kept pressing Golborne were making it hard and it took a brilliant run from Joe and with a cross to match that landed at the feet of Jason for him to blast it past the keeper 7-1. Ashton would quickly make it 8-1 after a strong run through the middle by Jamie for him to hit it past a hard working keeper. Golborne had the final say when again they broke and over powered the Ashton defence to make it 8-2
