6th May 2010 Ashton Athletic 5 - 1 Ashton Town
A Athletic depleted by injuries and other kids playing out of position set the template for a nervous game. Town playing 3 up front wanted the win and were determined to make Athletic work hard for a result. It would be a scrappy opening quarter with neither team getting a foot hold on the game. Faisal managed to break free down the left and sent in a brilliant cross on the 26min for poacher supreme Lewis, to slot it past the keeper, 1-0ht. Don’t know what was said at half time but Athletic came out a different team and looked more composed. Town were still causing problems and made the Athletic defence work hard to stop them getting the equaliser. Again it would take some individual skill to improve the score line and again Faisal on 41mins broke down the left and sent a cross in for that man again Lewis for him to knock it past the keeper. On the 43min Lewis got on the end of a Jamie cross to complete his hat trick. Town get trying and kept pressing but the Athletic defence stood strong and managed to break them down, but on the 49th min from a Town goal kick the Town number 9 broke away to slot it past Jimbo. Quick to respond on the 52min Matty played a delightful ball through to Lewis and he ran on to it to beat the keeper. Town battled well but Athletic had settled and were playing some good football and on the 58min Jamie who had worked hard all game ran down the right and cut inside to slot it past the keeper, 5-1ft
