27th September 2009 U10's 3 - 1 Hindley Juniors Athletic
What a superb game to watch and had everything a top of the table clash could have. Both teams trying to make their mark with battles across the park! Ashton applied the early pressure and were unlucky not to have an early penalty claim awarded. After that it was a game of two halves with Hindley being the more dominant in the first half and applying a lot of pressure and seemed to have kept Ashton on the back foot. The Hindley pressure finally took its toll and with a well worked passing move had a shot that Jimmy managed to get his hand to but Hindley reacted quicker than Ashton and made sure the rebound was slotted home. Faisal was replace by Joe as Ashton tried to win the midfield battle but couldn’t get first to the ball. Going in 1-0 down Brad and Hayden set about a team talk and a reshuffle that Sir Alex would have been proud of. Lewis replaced Jake, Jamie moved from the back to right wing, Callum slotted in to left back and Joe was replaced by Faisal on the left, this allowed Ashton to attack from deep on either flank. Ashton started to get more dominant in this half and with good build up play saw a through ball from Lewis land at Jakes feet, who had come on for the injured James, for Jake to hit it in the top left corner with the keeper unlucky to get his finger tips to it. Hindley tried to apply their pressure and had some goal line scrambles on the Ashton line. Again Ashton, winning the midfield battle with Regan starting to get more dominant, started to build up from the back and Matty, replaced Jason, broke free down the right and unleashed a brilliant right foot drive that was superbly saved by the keeper but he could not stop the shot of the rebound by Lewis,2 – 0. Another goal line scramble on the Ashton line from good build up play by Hindley but they could not get it passed a rugged Ashton defence superbly led by Captain Kieran. It was from a Hindley attack that would let Ashton stretch their lead from a Hindley corner, the ball was cleared and landed at the feet of Lewis who put Faisal in the clear and one on one with the keeper who had come off of his line. Faisal kept his cool and chipped the keeper from just outside the box, 3-0. The introduction of Matty seemed to inject the team with the much needed enthusiasm and deservedly walked off with the MoM. Credit goes to both teams and parents for a fantastic game of football
